My house was built in 1891. My porch roof is small and I just stripped asphalt shingles off of it. I am going to slate it to match the rest of the house. After stripping the asphalt shingles and the rotted sheathing (replacing all the sheathing as well), I see that the roof was built with 2x3 rafters and there’s no ridge beam. The total roof area is 0.6 squares. Can I slate this roof without modification to the structure? |
