But I'm told the copper is wide enough over the hip joint to keep water out. I'd like to get a roofer's opinion. What would prevent water from going underneath the copper. I'm not sure on the orientation but that looks like a terrible job. On old slate roof, badly tarred hip slates were removed. A layer of water/ice shield and rolled copper are used to "cap" the hips and old tarred slate is discarded. Will the membrane and copper keep out water as installed in these photos?
