What kind of nails did they use for the concrete deck?

I am restoring a 100 yo Vermont graduated slate roof. There are 36 dormers w 8' valleys 7/12. All slates are nailed to the concrete deck, the reinstall is tedious. A well know slater suggested mastic but has retired and is unavailable. Has anyone used a mastic what's your experience? I've been fastening slate since 1970 and always nailed but I'm open for suggestions.
Looking for better production.
