Completely unnecessary. Mitered wall corners can be laid open with no flashing, or pointed with lime mortar if you really want to get crazy.

Our church building has quite a few dormers with flat metal roofs and vertical sides, with slates lapped down the sides. Between the lapped slates and the window frame, on the face of the dormer, there are gaps. There's been some caulking done in the past. Is this good, and if we were to recaulk, what's the recommended material?
