Page 230 of the "Slate Roof Bible" says that quote: "sheet lead is a common material for this purpose , although 16 ounce copper is often used as well and can be used following the same procedures with some minor variations." 1)What minor variations does one need to do 2) is the 16 ounce copper soft copper, or semi-hard copper 3) is sheet lead BETTER??? than 16 ounce copper? How does one choose one over the other? Thank you |

16 ounce soft-copper is easier to work with and lead is better if one is concerned about staining of brick |

The minor variations involve soldering methods. You can't very easily solder sheet lead with a torch or soldering iron or it will melt. You may want to use an electric soldering iron. Lead is easier to work with than copper because it's softer and easier to bend. Either one will perform well, however, although copper is not as environmentally undesireable as lead. Joe Jenkins |
