And you can use a pattern of headnailing and cheek nailing which will have the same effect of a double nailed roof but will give you ease of repair |

Heyya John and all,im currently working on a job using Cupa Heavy 3's,theyve been shouldered at the top and have two nail holes in 'em,murder,i agree. Headnailing is the Scots way! No bad slate tho. Old skool - They do conform to the BS & EN Standards . This is theyre spec http://www.cupanaturalslate.co.uk/pdfs/quarries/DOC_cupa_heavy03.pdf I do know if you order from Hendersons in advance John, you can get headnailed crates. Or blanks which they will hole to your spec. I just realised how old this post is! (Message edited by SpexTheSlater on May 16, 2012) |

John, welcome to the site! Is "cupa" a Scottish slate association or a standards organization over in Europe or the UK? |

in scotland we head nail and side or cheek nail every 4th course which has worked even in very windy areas for 100s of years.why do cupa need every course side nailed ok for dormer or vertical slating . but i think its a big bit over the top. john mckie
