There are steel toed tennis shoe types. Any good work boot store will have them.

we were just talking about this
clark wallabys are great for laying slate
not so great for setting up scaffolding and hauling around planks though.

When living in Holland a few years back, I remember seeing some roofing shoe that looked like cross training shoes, with great traction for climbing around on roofs, but also had steel toes.

Do we have anything similar in the USA?
