Hi, Have installed 20 or so Random width slate roofs,Either for ourselves or on a Sub-Contract basis,When I have ordered slate have left it up to the supplier to determine the mix of slate-From 9"wide to 14"wide. Have wondered if there is a better way to order this material? Do certain widths work better together ect..Also sometimes we will install 3 different colors ,plus the random width,we just did a sub job -10's 11's 12's & 14"wide slate,3 colors(purple,Grey Green,Black)Equal percentage of the 3 colors was to be installed, the problem was the green greys 90% of them were 14" wide - 80%of blacks were 10" wide - 75% of purples were 11"wide -The job is complete and the people were well satisfied with the job.But I just would like to know how others would put in an order for This job- 30 square -20"long x Random width x 3 colors = percentage of 3 colors . Thanks, Ron |

Ron, It sounds to me that the slate supplier is sending you whatever they have in the yard to quickly get the order out. And I am sure I can tell you who sent it there are two companies very famous for that. My family owns Taran Brothers Slate they are one of the oldest quarriers and producers in the vermont area. I know when they send out a random width roofing slate order you get a selection of every width of slate per size per color as a random roof should be. Please feel free to contact them at 1 802 265 3220 or you can go through me at 1 802 265 4506. |
