I have a 1953 Cape Cod 1 1/2 story home with the original slate roof. The attic is partially finished. While removing some insulation on the north side of the attic I noticed black mold on the sheathing and around the dormer. I looked on both sides of the unfinished part of the attic and there are no signs of water damage or leaks. It appears only to be in the dormer. The beams are 2 x 8 and there was 6" insulation between them. There was no mold found on the drywall or any boxes stored in the attic. The dormer has a single gable vent, so I assume it is a moisture/venilation problem. My question would be the best way to tackle the current mold problem and make corrections to stop it from coming back.
