I have a small leak on my roof, I've been told that I have the "Best" slate to have, the Vermont black And Rhode Island Red, and that with some minor repairs and maintenance my roof should last a total of roughly 150- 200 years. The problem is the contractor wants $10,000.00 to fix things that aren't broken! We are kinda between a rock and a hard place,(excuse the pun) because there seems to be noone around that can work on slate. Plese help! At least educate me on how much the average bundle of slate costs etc... I realize this is just the beginning and I have many more questions. Thanks. |

There is no Rhode Island red. There is New York red. Also Vermont black is not a common slate on old roofs. Most of the hard black came from Peach Bottom, PA area, or Virginia. Have you checked the directory of slate roofers on this web site? (www.jenkinsslate.com/directory.html) |

A Rhode Island Red is a chicken, not a slate. |
