I don't know if any of you subscribe to Fine Homebuilding or not, but they have a great article (on-line) written by Charles Miller, after reviewing hurricane damage in Florida. Among other things, it talks about OSB, plywood, solid decking, nailing practices, and roof shapes. Probably no great surprise to you traditional roofers, but he notes that homes built in the '50s (with masonry walls and solid decking on the roofs) held up very well. Modern homes, using OSB and staples did not hold up to the various hurricanes hitting Florida this year. Plywood fell somewhere in-between, depending on a host of variables.
