Hello everybody,
My name is Jeovan and I am an export manager from Minas Slate (Minas Mundo Ltda), Brazil (www.minasslate.com ).
Our company has own slate quarries and we export natural Brazilian slates of high quality and good prices for more than 5 years all over the world.
We produce slate roofing, flooring, slabs, mosaics, flagstones, etc. in colors: absolute black, black graphite (Montauk lack), grey (Montauk blue), green, multicolor (rusty) and purple.
For future information, as price lists, pictures, samples request, delivery terms and conditions, etc. - you can contact me via sales@minasslate.com or skype - brazilianslate.

I hope you will be interested to work with us, and you can have the best Brazilian slate products direct from quarries, avoiding retailers.

Fake slate just isn't worth the trouble. Any good slate with a good reputation would do.

looks like a very simple installation, go w/ real slate that has a good pedigree. the diff. in material cost vs. fake slate isnt all that drastic & labor shouldnt be too bad on this house! JAYCO 1ROOFPRO

Hi Mr Jenkins,
thank you for your comment - I know you are an excellent roofer, so I greatly respect your opinion. It seems that the slates at the rear of the house are kind of turning upwards and lifting. Also, the roof looks pretty battered & worn looking I think. How long more do you reckon is left on this roof? Aesthetically, what kind of slate do you think would best suit the roof if I were to reslate it? Vermont green, bangor blue, etc are all available here in Ireland. Would you always rule out an artificial slate?
Regards,
Eamonn

Why don't you just repair the 70 year old roof? It looks like it has a lot of life left in it.

Also, if the cost of the slate were not an issue here, what colour/type of natural slate do you think would best suit the house?
Thank you for your help!

Hello,
I own a house in County Galway, Ireland. I have attached a picture of the house.
House

I want to replace the old roof slate which is about 70 years old and made of asbestos fibre cement.
The roof timbers are in excellent condition. Unfortunately, I have a limited budget and would like to receive advice on the type of slate to purchase.
I think that Brazilian natural slate may be the only natural slate I could afford (see these slates: http://www.slatesdirect.ie/gallery.htm). I contacted this company and they said that these slates have a 30 year guarantee, and that a company called MG Stone supply this slate.
My questions are:
(1) Would synthetic slate be more preferable than this Brazilian slate?
(2) What should I look for before buying this Brazilian slate, if I am to buy it eg documentation etc?
(3) Can you recommend a particular category of synthetic slate / affordable natural slate?

Pointers in the right direction and any other tips and advice would be a great help.

Thank you and regards,
Eamonn.
