Hi Everyone,

I am the owner of a small 2 story colonial style home located in Mt. Kisco, Westchester County, NY. The house was built in 1946 with a roof made of PA black slate. The roof has begun to delaminate and issues are beginning to arize with the flashing. Since my buying the house in 1989 I have become quite good at managing all roof repairs. I have read the Slate Roof Bible as well as specialty roofing books, have the right tools, bought quality slate and have had good success in keeping the roof tight. I recenty visited the slate quaries around Granville, NY to help me determine what product would suite me best for my next roof. Now I am looking for a qualified and experienced slate roof provider to do the job. I have estimated that the roof will require about 23 SQ of slate and the appropriate copper work. If yoiu are interested and meet the skill set required to do this job please e-mail or call Carl @ (914) 244-1305.

Regards

Anonymous - No I havn't yet. Began in the industry 15 years ago... then in 2002 I came off the roof creating a national sales company in the Slate Industry. Local Market was very interesting and had created a wonderful portfolio of authentic repairs, then into high end Restoration. I was fortunate enough to have customers that supported me into Very Artistic and Specialty Slate and Copper. We always had a rough winter so it wasn't the greatest for work for about 3 to 5 months each year. Hadn't done a lot of travel until 2000. At that point went various places to work yet most of the contractors or owners had problems beyond the roof. And in most caes it was a waste of time. In 2001 I developed an International Sales Company. All in the Slate Roofing Industry. Even then There was a large amount of National opportunities, yet because I am very selective on the work I do and I turned away from it. My main objective was to Create better high end Copper Accessories for Slate, Tile, and Copper Roof Systems. And offer technical support to anyone in need. I had personally detached from the contracting end of the buisness for the very reason that it was a crumbling market. Crumbling because there was no Solid information on Good Products... Nothing Available for Installation Support.... No understanding available to the consumers. Just a total abandoned Industry. There have been a handful of people out there who have established the industry once again and created the entire future of it's value, truth, and opportunity. Joe was one of these people - He is one of the top ten people that have made waves toward change. Myself I have been blessed with a tremendous passion for Slate. And my customers have all followed and enjoyed all of what we have done. During development of the national sales company, I worked with all of the industries manufacturers. Worked with creating solutions and opportunities to connect these products and information to the users. I have personally been responsible for many changes to products that a very large part of the industry uses today. I study and test the products design. Your best Slate Knowledge comes from 100% Repair and Restoration. Yet until we challenged this industry and put it in the publics eyes, it was only for a few of us. And many Slaters were Enemies without even knowing one another. And this really was a sad and defeated occupation. These great associations were created by the few guys there that saw it as I did. These Associations didn't exist 6 or 7 years ago. It's a wonderful thing to see it. Yet there are still massive voids. I'm determined you will see a greater thing coming soon!. The Information, Products, and Training are now out there but it still is mixed up and loose in effect. So as of 2006 I've been contacted by some old friends that are looking for a different direction. And they want me to create it. For a period of 3 to 4 years I was involved in a unrewarding Partnership. As of recent I chose to walk away. So joining the Association looks quite rewarding. In the past my name was always associated with the company I created. It was simple 85% of the industry knew myself or my company. And we were part of the core of the industry. The company had lost the ability to be truthful and reliable and dismissed knowledge. This ain't for me. So if you were to look around for myself and credentials that is where you found me. But surely If you are interested you will be glad we spoke. And my credentials will speak for me. Send an e-mail address and I will send you collection of interesting projects I've done as well... The people to contact. You will be satisfied. Thank you - Dave (814)323-6374 / roofteacher@hotmail.com

Dave,
This is not meant to be disrespectful to you at all but, with all the knowledge you say you have and all the great projects you've done. Then why are you trying to sell yourself so hard on this board. It would seem to me someone with all your experiences and great completed projects should be so busy that they are booking work for next year--especially when you offer to travel. I know alot of slate contractors and 95% of them are totally flat out running this time of year. Good luck and i'll have to post my e-mail (later) to have you send me some pics like you offered the other anonymous.

Sure - Thank You again for the feedback. Well it's pretty simple. I Came off the roof a couple years ago. And during that I left the market for just sales and products. After being involved in a unproffessional partnership and walking away I left my reputation there. With the exception of my own personal customers. Being Free it is like starting over. Corporate reasoning causes me to set aside any company related contacts. Myself also when I am involved in roofing per say I am not a person that accepts a lot of the work that is available. I really am only interested in authentic work. And trust me much of the work available out there is really not good. Not just the end results but the beginning proposal. And personally most of my interests do not involve Installation. It really is not hard to qualify yourself in the industry if you really know the products and roof situations. Truthfully a vast majority of Slaters that are great are not the ones with massive workloads. Generally a large majority of really good and true craftsman have left the Installation end of it. Realizing that it was a price based fast paced market. And a lot of times the proposed extremely booked companies are not as qualified as you'ld think. Please don't misunderstand there are some great companies and individuals in the Installation Market. But at the same time there are a good handfull of exceptional guys that are not inspired by the offers or demands of an unknowing Builder, Owner, or Architect. So they do not go after nor end up with the full season work. Because of cheap installations with lacking abilities. The fortunate guys that are located in Slate Heaven's ( Large Slate Cities )- And that are extremely good at the full aspect of a real lifetime roof are continually busy. But this is not a reality in many communities.Where we are there are many roofs that need repaired. But the point of restoration is needed and evident on most of them. It's not fullfilling to charge for work on a building that needs restored. And a repair will not satisfy what was paid. Many of the great opportunists of the market have shifted many directions. And many of them have made many new starts in various New or Original Directions. My friend I must go. but would love to speak again. Thank You - Dave Snyder

Folks, Dave Snyder is out of his mind. You have probably already figured this out from his many messages, but just in case, you didn't, be warned. Sorry Dave, but you aren't going to take over this message board. The whole point of this forum is to create more credibility in our industry, and you don't do that with your bizarre ramblings.
