If you want to buy new slate hammers, here's the link. Some are pretty reasonably priced: https://josephjenkins.com/store/slate-hammers/

Hi
I've had one of these hammers for years and someone on a site stole it,
Where is the best place to buy a second hand one, I don't really want a new one,
Although a new one is better than none,
Help please ...?
Cheers
Neil

I am someone who enjoys looking at the beauty of a slate roof - oh no, what has my life become!

It sure is nice to see such beautiful work Liam and Walter. We do enjoy seeing your handiwork and gift for slating.

Also, if there are other slaters out there that wouldn't mind posting their pictures, it would be nice to see your work, too.

Walter do you have a ornament slate hammer I will buy it, if not I am going to buy one from my other supplier. I could use the one I am talking about, not for installing slate roof, but for some oramental project that are going on.

I use a Stortz for most of what I do, and I us the common Freund on my slaters stake because you can cut both ways with it, because there's no nail puller.

Looks like a very small hammer - 17 ounces versus Stortz's nearly 24 ounces, which is already a small enough hammer. We have the Stortz and the French pattern hammers, but I don't think we'll be getting any more from Europe any time soon.

We don't carry the Freund slate hammers with the cutting shanks. They're popular in Germany where traditional German slating requires each and every slate to be hand shaped prior to nailing, but they're light in weight and limited in use here in the U.S.. Traditional German slating is very rare here and the hammers we need for slating are different - heavier, primarily. You can get the Freund hammers from Bocker, I think.

The only Freund hammer we sell is a hammer designed primarily for nailing slate and for restoration work, but not for cutting slate. It's a good hammer for installing new slate roofs because the weight is in the head (not the shank), which is better for driving nails and for punching holes, the two primary tasks of the hammer when installing slate if the slates don't need to be individually shaped. I like to use this hammer during installations. You can see it at http://www.jenkinsslate.com/store_hammers.html#freund.

We do sell slate hammers with cutting shanks, including the Stortz (http://www.jenkinsslate.com/store_hammers.html#sham) and the Gilbert and Becker (http://www.jenkinsslate.com/store_hammers.html#gbham). Both are excellent tools.

You can order them from this web site using a credit card and it doesn't matter what currency you're using - it will be automatically converted. Go to http://www.jenkinsslate.com/store_hammers.html and dselect the hammer you want.
