Why not retrofit snow guards?

There is not much left of it right now and it really doesn't do much anyway. If you want to take them out and install the ice guards, have at it and then replace the slates. Good luck!

can anyone describe the best way to install snow guards on a 1930s slate roof (vermont, thick)? i don't want to use the retrofit snow guards and would rather take out the slates and install regular ones. what are some of the concerns related to the roofing paper underneath? thank you
