8d (2.5") common nails are what I've read works well. As far as weather using a nail gun is ok or not I'm not sure. I can't imagine it would be a problem. I personally would use an exterior decking screw. nothing holds like a screw

What is the recomended way to fasten decking to be used under a flat lock seam copper roof on a 3/12 pitch. Are nail guns ok to use?
