We are considering overlaying over a very old slate roof. Having concerns about removal of the old slate before reroofing. Have seen overlaying several times in our area, but still have questions

What type of roofing do you intend to lay over the slate?
There aren't many good reasons to overlay, and numerous ones why thats not a good idea.
You will wind up with a far superior end result if you remove the old, make sure the deck is sound, replace the underlayment and flashings, and lastly install the product.

I'm all for tearing off IF the slate is indeed ready to be torn off. I really really try to never lay one roof over another roof.

What are your concerns about tearing off the slate?
