Hi folks. Just wanted to drop a line in the forum and see what's new. The stucco crew is done here so I'm back on the roof of the house with my slates. It's just me up there right now, the few young lads I had working have gone on to other adventures in building. I've finished the garage and it looks great!! Lots of comments on my work, which is always inspiring. I'm working out ahead of time how to put the copper ridge caps on the house and blend them in with the built up hips. Tricky. I'm making my own ridge "iron" and valley flashings on an 8 foot long metal brake on site. We order our own 16 oz copper in 4' x 8' sheets. I've never told you all this but I have the "luxury" of a crane to get my slates on the roof. I put 2 x 4's on the roof to set the buldles of 10 each on, and then we lift 20 bundles at a time on a 4'x 8' pallete. Lucky me huh? I do have to haul my own waste down though. The house has 16 pitches, 6 valleys and 10 hips to deal with plus 50' of ridge. However there's only about 8 feet of rake. I'll email Joe some pics when I can so you can see this beast! I figure that by the time I'm done, I'll have a pretty good amount of experience under my belt. I won't know everything by any means, but it's a darn good start. Hope your enjoying your summer of roofing, and may your bee stings be few!! |
