The quarry was Greenstone they do have such a warranty: http://www.greenstoneslate.com/warranty.htm I was just curious about the rough surface of the slates... I would have thought a non-smooth surface would promote flaking. Not worried as much as curious... | ||

Joseph, Thanks for the question. With new Vermont slate, regardless of texture, the slate itself should last atleast 100 years. Depending on the quarry that you purchased it from, you should have actually received a 100 year warranty. My warranty for new slate covers: 1. Delaminating (extensive flaking) of the face of the slate, or 2. Substantial deterioration (softening) of the body of the slate. This is good for 100 years... Thanks for sharing. I put a Vermont gray/black roof up last fall. Sort of a subtle strata. One question I have is that the slate has a rough texture surface, not like the smooth surface of an unweathering green above. Does that rough texture make the slate more prone to flaking/chipping? I like the look, but am wondering about long term lifespan. | ||
