Jimmy, Be careful on that last picture where you have all the slate stacked in the corner of the room upstairs. You know how heavy they are because you had to carry them up there, but that is overloading the floor at that point by a long ways. You don't want to break any floor joist or crack the ceiling beneath it. |

Well.....had to stop for a bit and only work a little on the weekends. Here's a link of where I'm at right now. Going to finish that dormer and attach the copper valley. Then I'll tear down that dormer scaffold and work from the bottom up. Hope it'll work! Have to say I really like this slate. Oh and I put some loop the loop snow guards on the front to help keep the snow from hitting the copper built in below. When I went to put the 3rd row of loop the loops on I realized it would no longer line up since that course starts the fishscale. Doh! Should look nice once I finish that hip. All comments good or bad welcome- Thanks- Jim http://gallery.me.com/jgodish#100128 |

Cool! Thanks again Old School- I'll finally be able to start slating next weekend. That is, if the weather cooperates. Chris- It's Highland Park, NJ across the Raritan river from New Brunswick (Rutgers) |

Hi Guys. I have salvaged 14x20 Buckingham and just got some salvaged Vermont green and though I'd TRY a pattern. Since I've never done this before, I thought I'd play it safe and ask for your opinion. I thought I'd put a band that went around my house with fishscales that was at the same height as the dormer with a small flower made with the Vermont slate on the front side of the dormer only. The fishscales are the 14x20 cut in half lengthwise. I think I like it, but will it work ok? I thought I'd increase my headlap a bit too. DSC_3647 shows the pattern best, although there wont be a pattern on the larger slates as shown. DSC_3652 is my house. All of my neighbors are working on their houses too, but couldn't talk them into slate roofs though. http://gallery.me.com/jgodish#100096 Thanks for your help again- Jim |
