hi, I am a painting contractor in indiana and am preparing to paint a pre 1920's house with a slate roof. the chimney is stucco and needs some repair. The roof is quite steep and the peak is about 38' tall. From reading your site it looks like the way to go are ladder hooks. Can i take my 40' extension ladder apart and and use it in this application? Also do I need two hooks per ladder? Can put a ladder on each side of the chimney and add ladder jacks and a plank as a work platform? Thanks in advance for any info. Bill Macleod preservation Painting Elkhart Indiana 574-903-0641 |

Can i take my 40' extension ladder apart and and use it in this application? If it's aluminum and can be taken apart. Also do I need two hooks per ladder? Most roofers use one hook per ladder. Manufacturer recommends 2 hooks per ladder. Can put a ladder on each side of the chimney and add ladder jacks and a plank as a work platform? If the chimney is not too close to the gable end, yes. More than one plank on aluminum ladder jacks makes a better (wider) work platform (and an aluminum plank clamped to the ladder jacks is superior). Three wooden planks work well too (one lying flat against the ladder). Micro-lam planks are strongest and safest if they don't slide on you (may need tied on). |
