Definitely PA slate. Repair slate could be North Country Unfading Black www.ncslate.com/products/unfading-black.html seeing that it is very smooth and uniform in texture. We also have stocking distributors in Westchester County. Best of luck!

It looks like Pennsylvania Black. Can't really give an accurate estimation of life expectancy from this one picture, but as John said, "they had the roof repaired...there must be some life left in it."

The one on the lower left is a replacement as you can see the stainless hook at the very botom of the picture. The rest of the slates are starting to flake and erode away, so they are absorbing water. I would say that the roof is about 75 years old + or - 10 years, and that it is getting close to it's end of useful life. With that said, that life may be 10 more years, or it may need to be replaced now. The fact that they had the roof repaired tells me that there must be some life left in it. We need a few more pictures and some details to give you more than that. The piece that they used for the repair could be the vermont gray.

Just bought on house in Westchester, NY. Can you please help me ID this slate? How many years could I expect to get out of this roof on average? Thank you for your help.Slate Photo 1
