No need to cut it, as it won't bother the slate. If you feel the need however, it won't hurt anything either. It just won't accomplish anything. It is a win-win situation for you. Have fun with it. |

Really appreciate the response! With a 20 ounce copper drip edge I just can't see a need to cut a line in the metal. It is hanging off in the air and the copper that is attached to the roof deck wouldn't, I think, move enough to crack my 1/4" slate? Although, from the driveway base and backyard we are talking 40' up so it would not be that noticed if I did put a couple of cuts in them. What to do? |

Lap it about 1/4 ". If you butt them it will show, and if you go over that it will deflect. |

Thanks Old School I have made a 20 ounce copper drip edge and didn't think I would need to slice it every 4'. Do you over lap the drip edge onto each other if my pitch is 12/12 or greater? Or do you just go edge to edge butting them up.....total distance is about 17' up each side to the peak. I am placing slate back after tearing off three layer comp |

The joints in the pieces are expansion joints. The ridge is a shed point, so you don't have to solder it. If you want to, just cut the vertical piece in a 'vee" and fold it over the ridge. That works too. |

I have searched for this topic but did not come up with anything. I have a 86 year old English Tudor. Pulling off the Drip edge flashing I noticed a slice in the Galv metal drip edge along the Gable edge every 4'. Is this an expansion slice. It was not sliced when it turned onto the roof deck. Also, Is it ok to run the 8' lengths of drip edge up to the peak from both sides and leave them not soldered or joined but close the gap as tight as possible? Your goint to have a ridge cap anyway? or should you make bend, soldered ridge section then continue down both sides with 8' lengths and over lap the drip edges slightly? |
