I looked at a large repair job yesterday and noticed that when the slate was installed they laid felt paper or asphalt paper of some kind on every row. such in a way as like economy installation. Except the paper goes from where the exposure will start(or the butt of the over laying slate) up about 2 inches above the piece of slate. It is like a layer of slate covered by layer of asphalt then slate again. The roof is graduated from inch and half thick 18x randoms down to 12x randomsthree eights to half. Is there any reason or purpose for this?? | ||

There is no reason or purpose for this that makes sense. Felt laid over each course of slate creates a nightmare if you have to replace or repair any slates. The slate ripper gets stuck under the slate, caught in the felt as it bunches up while the slate ripper is trying to get at the slate nail. The felt should be laid underneath the slate. |
