Hi.

When is it appropriate to use 20oz versus 16oz copper.

For example,
the copper ridge can be 16 oz
the copper valley flashing should be 20oz
the step flashing around dormers should be ????
the apron flashing around the dormers should be???
flashings around the chimney should be????
homemade vent pipe flashings should be????
flat seam copper roofing should be 20oz
copper gutters should be????
anthing else I miss?

Thank you

20 ounce copper weighs 20 ounces per square foot while 16 ounce copper weighs 16 ounces per square foot. 20 ounce then, is thicker and lasts longer. They are interchangeable, but the 20 ounce is better to use in areas where more wear is expected, such as valleys. 20 ounce can be used in all applications as well: step flashings, etc., for a better job.
